WINCANTON CARES wins South-West Award

The New Year is bringing some genuinely good news for our town. A brand-new Wincanton Pharmacy is opening on the High Street, expanding local access to everyday health services. Our much-loved cinema is also on its way back and this time, bigger and better, with exciting plans already underway. And there’s welcome news from the Food Bank too, with a move to more accessible premises that will better serve everyone who needs it. These changes reflect a town that continues to care, adapt, and invest in its people. Read on for the full details and what to expect next.

Lonely? Struggling? Important to know that you’re not alone – help is at hand.

Loneliness can feel overwhelming but in Wincanton, there are people who care. In this month’s blog, Wincanton Cares looks at how loneliness affects us, and shares a host of practical ways to reconnect, from our new befriending scheme to local events, reading groups, and the Food Bank. You’ll also find advice on managing long-term pain, tips for staying well in hot weather, and news of our upcoming Talking Table and Carers Day. If you’re looking for support, or want to offer it to someone else, this is a good place to start.

Lots to to talk about in this Spring/Summer newsletter. First things first, meet our new Benefits Officer who can advise on all sorts of help that might be available for us. We’ll introduce you to Michael. We are also looking at the changes in the NHS and how they might affect you, including a new Healthwatch organisation. We take a look at Wincanton Library and what it has to offer – more than books apparently, and we’ll also recap on some of the very sensible advice from Neighbourhood Watch. Let’s go!

This month we’ll be learning about CCS, the Community Council for Somerset, and the Somerset Carers Service. We’ll also be hearing about Fiona Clements who is The Village Agent (Carers Service) for Wincanton and the surrounding areas. And what is a Carers Champion – we’ll find out. Then, finally for this month, we’ll be offering some timely safety advice that makes sense for all of us to follow.
