About Wincanton Cares

There are about 700 people in Somerset who are waiting to be contacted by Adult Social Care for assessment of their needs. Wincanton Cares has been set up to care for anyone who needs information about caring. If you are a carer, whether a ‘micro-provider’ (a paid carer), someone who cares for someone for love, for compassion or neighbourliness or if you are someone who is cared for or would like help, please call or contact us. We have a most helpful Project Officer, professional Carers and volunteers who want to help.

You can contact Wincanton Cares on 07834 597893 or go to the contact page on our website where you can find a form to fill in and submit.

The Seven Strands

  • We want to help people find the paid care that will let them stay in their own homes, avoid social isolation and stay physically and mentally well.
  • We want to improve IT support to tackle ‘digital poverty’ for everyone including carers as well as those cared for.
  • We want people to know where they can go to ask for help including how to get care.
  • We want to encourage more people to volunteer, befriend and look out for those who are lonely and friendless.
  • We would like to develop Wincanton’s understanding of anyone with dementia.
  • We want to support all those who are unpaid carers supporting family, friends and neighbours.
  • Anyone who feels the need for emotional or wellbeing support is welcome to contact us. 07834 597893 www.wincantoncares.org

Poetry Corner

Comfort by Elizabeth Jennings

Hand closed upon another, warm
The other, cold, turned round and met
And found a weather made of calm.
So sadness goes, and so regret.
A touch, a magic in the hand -
Not that the fortune-teller sees
Or thinks that she can understand.
This warm hand binds but also frees.

And finally. If you need help right now:
